LOLER inspection of climbing and rigging equipment

What is LOLER?

The Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 states that lifting equipment is inspected and maintained to ensure that it is safe to use. All equipment must be uniquely identifiable. LOLER inspections must be carried out by a qualified and competent person.

What is lifting equipment?

Lifting equipment can be defined as any piece of equipment responsible for lifting, lowering or suspending a load, which can mean a person.

How often must arboriculture equipment be checked?

It is a legal requirement that all lifting equipment should be checked, inspected and examined by the user before use. As well as this, thorough examinations should be carried out by a competent person:

  • every 6 months for climbing equipment, including tool strops
  • every 12 months for rigging equipment
  • following the occurrence of exceptional circumstances (such as overloading or an incident).
  • If the equipment has been used in a rescue operation

How much does it cost?

Initial Inspection

Climbing Kit (A kit that includes a harness) Up to 20 Items = £75+Vat
Additional Items are charged hourly at £70+vat per hour (charged at 15-minute increments)

Rigging Kit – Up to 20 Items = £75+Vat
Additional Items are charged hourly at £70+vat per hour (charged at 15-minute increments)

Re-Inspection

Climbing Kit – Up to 20 previously inspected items = £60+Vat
Additional previously inspected/ Additional New items are charged hourly at £60+vat per hour (charged at 15-minute increments)

Rigging Kit – Up to 20 Items = £60+Vat
Additional previously inspected/ Additional New items are charged hourly at £60+vat per hour (charged at 15-minute increments)

Travel Costs

Should you require our examiner to come to you, travel and any other associated costs will be calculated and agreed with you on an ad hoc basis.
