Good management starts with understanding your trees and their setting. We look at species, condition, targets, access and your goals for the site. From there we plan maintenance that is proportionate, safe and compliant. For many clients this means a light touch each year, with targeted pruning to keep trees healthy and clear of buildings, paths and overhead lines. Where a tree has failed or no longer fits the space, we remove it and leave the area ready for replanting.
Our surveyor can complete one-off inspections or estate-wide surveys. You get simple reports with risks explained in plain English and a prioritised works list. If you need support with TPOs, conservation areas or planning, we handle checks and applications.
Pruning is carried out by trained arborists using recognised methods such as crown lifting, thinning, reduction and deadwood removal. Cuts are made with care to protect the tree and reduce the chance of future issues. We choose MEWP or climbing access depending on the site and always set safe working zones.
Where removal is the right option, we dismantle the tree safely and manage arisings. Stumps can be ground below soil level so you can replant, returf or build. Timber can be left for habitat, retained for your use, or removed by licensed carriers.

Get in touch with Great Oaks today. We’re happy to answer any questions relating to arboriculture or grounds maintenance, or provide further info about our chainsaw courses.

Schools needing safer playground clearance, housing providers planning cyclical pruning, developers preparing sites with tree protection in place, utility contractors managing vegetation near assets, and homeowners wanting expert advice and tidy, careful work.
Do I need permission before any tree work?
You may if the tree is covered by a TPO or in a conservation area. We carry out checks and can submit applications on your behalf.
Can you work around the public or live sites?
Yes. We set clear exclusions, use spotters and coordinate with site teams. Our experience on highways, utilities and education sites keeps projects moving.
How often should trees be inspected?
Frequency depends on the location and use of the area. Many estates work on annual or biennial cycles, with additional checks after severe weather.
What happens to the arisings?
We chip branches, remove waste through licensed carriers, or leave timber stacked if you prefer. Stumps can be ground for a clean finish.
