Utilities and Infrastructure

Tree Services for Utilities and Infrastructure

Keeping networks safe and reliable takes more than cutting back growth. It needs planning around permits, outages, public access and ecology, delivered by people who understand live assets and the paperwork that sits behind them. Great Oaks supports utilities and infrastructure operators across Preston, Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Merseyside and the wider North West with a full suite of arboriculture and vegetation services.

We are an Arboricultural Association Approved Contractor with Constructionline Gold, Once For All SSIP and ROSPA membership. Teams are NPTC qualified, RAMS-ready and used to working beside the public, traffic and critical assets. Job progress, photos and notes are shared through our digital reporting so stakeholders can see what has been done and when.

How We Plan and Deliver

Work starts with a short assessment covering access, services, stakeholders and constraints. We confirm permits or outages, then agree the method and sequence so crews, traffic management and plant arrive in the right order. In open ground we use mechanised solutions for speed. In sensitive areas we switch to pedestrian flails, brushcutters and climbing teams. Arisings are chipped, mulched or removed by licensed carriers, and stumps are ground below level where ongoing maintenance is needed.

Our approach is compliant with BS3998 and current guidance. Outside the nesting season is preferred, but if timings are tight we complete checks and agree proportionate controls with you or your ecologist.

Services for Utilities and Infrastructure

Line clearance and statutory cuts

Planned cycles to your specification, with spans prioritised by growth rate and risk. We use climbing, MEWP and ground methods to achieve consistent, clean cuts with proper target pruning.

Vegetation clearance and access creation

Opening compounds, wayleaves and corridors using forestry mulchers, pedestrian flails and hand teams. On-site processing keeps haulage down and leaves a neat finish ready for inspections or works.

Tree risk and emergency response

Storm-damaged trees, hanging limbs and root plate movement near assets are made safe quickly. Sectional dismantling, rigging or controlled felling is selected to protect people, structures and services.

Surveys, permissions and records

Tree risk surveys, simple constraints notes and method statements for protected trees or conservation areas. We align with BS5837 where protection and works sit alongside construction. All jobs are documented with dated photos and short completion notes.

Invasive species support

Practical removal and clearance to support specialist treatment plans, with clean handling and licensed disposal.
