Serving the Fylde coast from Freckleton

Tree Surgeons in Blackpool

Great Oaks covers Blackpool, Bispham, South Shore and Marton from our yard at Freshfield Farm, Freckleton, about half an hour down the M55. Coastal trees take a battering that inland trees never see, and we prune, dismantle and make safe with that in mind. Written quotes, ARB Approved Contractor standards, and crews already working on the coast every week.

Already working on the coast

Trusted by Blackpool's coastal housing provider

We deliver grounds and tree work for Blackpool Coastal Housing, alongside councils and housing providers across the Fylde including Fylde Council and Kirkham Town Council. That means our teams are on Blackpool estates week in, week out, working to the standards a social landlord audits: written risk assessments before work starts, and a photographic record of what was done.

The same crews quote and carry out private work: a garden sycamore in Marton, a boundary line in Bispham, or a storm-damaged tree that cannot wait. Urgent jobs come first.

Worth knowing locally

Coastal trees are a different job

Salt-laden wind off the Irish Sea shapes every tree on this coast. Crowns grow lopsided away from the sea, exposed limbs dry out and fail sooner, and a storm that inland gardens shrug off will bring branches down along the front. Good coastal tree work leans on reduction and thinning that lowers the wind load without wrecking the tree, and on honest advice when a tree is past saving.

Consent works differently here too. Blackpool itself is a unitary authority, so Blackpool Council holds the TPO register and the conservation areas, including around Stanley Park. Lytham and St Annes sit with Fylde Council, and Cleveleys and Thornton with Wyre. We check which register applies before we cut, and if consent is needed you hear about it on the quote, not after the saw is out.

What we do in Blackpool

From a single garden tree to full estates

Pruning and wind-load reduction

Crown reduction and thinning that keeps coastal trees standing through the storm season, done to BS3998.

Felling and dismantling

Straight fells where there is room, careful sectional dismantling in tight terraced gardens and over buildings.

Storm-damaged and dangerous trees

Hanging limbs, wind-thrown stems and leaning trees made safe, prioritised by risk. Urgent jobs come first.

Stump removal

Stumps ground out below soil level so lawns, drives and fence lines can move on. Compact machines fit a standard gate.

Hedges and boundaries

Reductions and regular maintenance for garden and boundary hedges, including the wind-burnt coastal kind.

Surveys and reports

BS5837 planning surveys, risk assessments and mortgage reports from our in-house team. See tree surveys.

Managing communal land or commercial grounds in Blackpool? That is a contract conversation rather than a one-off quote: see commercial grounds maintenance.
